Site Information for the Greenhaven Log Home
Greenhaven Log Home, a part of Fraley Mountain River Ranch, is located at the end of Grant Creek Road which runs along the plateau on the north bank of the Stilliguamish River.
The carriage house has room for two cars plus an electric cart (included with sale of property) in the lower level. The electric cart is lots of fun and a great workhorse. It will be parked in the garage as a gift to the new owner. The purpose of the electric cart is to transfer anything that is going up to the house and the golf cart ( if you don't need the walk) starts out by crossing your own private bridge across a creek, which feeds into the North Fork of the Stilaguamish River.
There is an completely finished room (800 sq. ft.) on the upper level of the carriage house, which can be used as a mother-in-law apartment, game room, or studio.
The bridge is constructed to county standards to support up to 6000 lbs.
As you walk or ride up to the house itself, you go through the remnants of the beautiful old growth forest with the huge stumps still visible and the new second growth forest of
perhaps 50 or 60 years surrounding the house.

Greenhaven Log Home is located 1000 feet from a high bank river frontage of 170’, with a future possible trail to make the river frontage accessible from the house.
There is a trail a few lots away with an easement in favor of Greenhaven. A trail on Greenhaven land would an excellent project for the new owner.
Information on the Logs used to Build Greenhaven Log Home
What kind of logs are used in this log house?
These beautiful logs are square with chamfered corners. They are an engineered product, made by Sing Log Homes Company, manufactured in the heart of Washington’s forest products processing country to be dimensionally stable. They are made similarly to laminated beam that are widely used for roof supports.
Why are these logs especially appropriate for a BuiltGreen home?
Small strong timbers, otherwise not useful for sawmilling into construction lumber, are often discarded or burned. This patented laminating process rescues small, strong wood pieces and combines them into logs stronger and more stable than the large logs traditionally used in long home construction. This manufacturing process has created new opportunities for sound environmental practices.
What makes these logs especially beautiful?
The smaller pieces that make up each log show off the lovely growth patterns and tree rings that are natural to all trees. This type of log shows the inner beauty hidden in the forest surrounding Greenhaven Log Home.
What makes the interior of the Greenhaven Log Home especially beautiful and safe to live with?
The wood patterns and Penofin® furniture finishing products give Greenhaven Log Home an interior glow as the light streams through windows. In some rooms, white painted wall board above the lower wooden sections create a “chalet” like feel to the house.
The logs are protected with Penofin® interior finishes. This oil alkyd resin is widely used by quality furniture makers throughout North America. It is a low VOC product that can easily be wiped on with a cloth if touch up is needed in the future. Should the new owner desire, the interior logs can be painted in any fashion. Penofin® is an ideal choice for environmentally sensitive individuals.
Why does this log house need less upkeep and maintenance compared to other log houses?
Ordinary logs both absorb moisture and dry out and crack. The moisture can cause rot and cracking that changes the shape and size of the logs, limiting their life and requiring periodic maintenance. The laminated Sing logs used at Greenhaven Log Home and pre-glued and grain matched, processes which ensure dimensionally stability and prevent excessive cracking. The need for structural maintenance is avoided. Ordinary care to preserve the appearance is all that is necessary.
How does this method of log construction protect the value and assure a long lifetime for the house?
These glued (Titebond Green Adhesives) logs and screwed with 12" screws every 12" logs are stronger and more durable than any others. By maintaining structural integrity and beauty, future value is both protected and assured.
What makes the exterior of the Greenhaven Log Home especially beautiful and well protected?
The strong log construction, old growth cedar shakes and metal roof were all chosen for their intrinsic beauty and long life.
The engineered square logs will retain their appearance indefinitely. The exterior wood surface is protected by two coats of exterior Penafin and two coats of Cetol by Sikken, a marine finish, especially chosen for its appearance and durability in Pacific Northwest weather conditions. In years to come this surface treatment can readily be renewed.
Beside cutting waste by using laminated logs, how else has Greenhaven’s builder used greenbuilt principles for wood products?
There are numerous examples throughout the house where fallen wood from the property was specially milled for use in the house. Ask Keith Bryant to show you where wood from the land can be found in the house.
